Touring Oxford Parks and Meg Ryan

Last night, after dinner, we had really nice weather. The sun came out and the light was gorgeous. Several of us met at the Porter's Lodge after the second dinner seating for a walk to the parks. Here are some photos around 7:45 p.m....

The view as you enter the gates of Worcester College, just past the porter's lodge...

The passage to the gardens...

The view from the front gates of Worcester, looking down Beaumont Street. Where you see the red sign is the location of the conference Meg Ryan is attending this week...

After leaving college, we ended up on St. Giles and took the Lamb and Flag passage. As we were walking down this little passage, several people were walking toward us. I noticed their huge name tags and recognized that they were part of the Meg Ryan group. So, I whispered to Allen that this was the group, and then, immediately, I saw Meg Ryan walking towards us. She looked very elegant and was in deep, serious conversation about conference matters. It was nice to hear her engaged and not discussing silly things. I loved Meg Ryan already, but to see her really deep in conversation about something really important...well, my opinion is very high now! Anyway, we all had our cameras in our hands because we were going to the parks. However, Allen and I and Malcom (the red head you will see in a minute on the Tolkien bench) were the only ones who saw her. When she saw all of us walking with cameras, she became a bit nervous. She did smile at us, but we didn't attempt to take a photo because we wanted to respect her privacy. She sounds just like she does in the movies! And, she is much taller than I anticipated.

Anyway, after our run in with the rich and famous, we headed out to the parks...

We saw Keble College (bad photo...but I couldn't get a good shot)...

All of us on the Tolkien bench...

The pond at the University Parks...

A bridge built during the Depression era. Dr. Halli and I wandered up there to look around while everyone went to the Tolkien bench.I watched a dog jump in the water to chase a ball. He had a great time!

Coming out of the parks, we made our way to a very nice residential area in north Oxford...

Then, we saw Tolkien's house, where he wrote everything...

A great little street we passed through on the way back to college...

This morning, I went back to Blackwell's for coffee and reading. Bought a few postcards and some stamps. Then, I hit the flea market at Gloucester Green! I hit the jackpot! I found a really cheap bound edition of a year's worth of a girl's magazine from the 1880s. It was a book lover's paradise today.

Also, today, the sun came out again. So, I took advantage of the opportunity and took some photos of the gardens at Worcester...

Formal hall is tonight, so I will blog about that later...
